Power-Gen Europe 2016: impressive showcase of technological innovation and inspiring debates

Highlights of the conferences and exhibition

Power-Gen Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe, the leading conference and exhibition for the international power and renewable industries, lived up to expectation with an impressive showcase of technological innovation and inspiring debates from industry leaders.

The inaugural day of the exhibition saw over 12.000 visitors attend the MiCo Milano Congressi in Milan to experience the latest thinking from some of the power industry’s key decision makers. The conference commenced with a welcome address from International Conference Director, Nigel Blackaby. The opening keynote came from Enrico Viale, Head of Global Generation, Enel Group, who examined the business case for the energy transition, stating that companies cannot afford to separate sustainability from profitability.

Another highlight of the first day was the Joint Plenary Discussion. The lively session featured a line-up of companies facing the challenge and opportunity of the energy transition in Europe. The panel debated the implications of de-carbonization post-COP21, the development of energy storage and the speed of the energy transition. The experts agreed that while large strides have been made towards Europe’s energy targets, care needs to be taken to ensure the right thinking, regulation and innovation is available to support the transition. Moreover, in order to achieve the ambitious targets set at COP21, the power industry will require new approaches, new products and new skills.

The second and third days of the show provided expert industry insight and an exciting program of debate to over 13.000 visitors. A must-see of the second day was the “Utility Leaders Roundtable”, which saw seven of Italy’s top decision-makers from a diverse cross-section of utilities and municipalities come together to discuss traditional and renewable power generation across Europe. Innovation, legislation and clean energy were three key focuses of debate. The experts also addressed the future of traditional utilities, the prospects for new entrants and the trend towards consumer power and distributed generation. The panel agreed that innovation is critical for the future of the sector and that traditional bodies will continue to play a central role in energy supply. The conference also featured a dedicated “Energy Storage Day”, where experts agreed that storage technologies are vital to the success of reaching Europe’s de-carbonization targets.

On the exhibition floor, delegates enjoyed networking opportunities and technical insights from 450 exhibitors. Pensotti Fabbrica Caldaie Legnano was among them and we would like to thank all the Clients who visited our stand and who turned up making Power-Gen Europe & Renewable Energy World Europe a phenomenal experience, with over 13,500 attendees.
